Implant for Crown and Bridge

Your smile says a lot about you. When your smile looks great, you feel great! However, if you are missing teeth, you may instead feel self conscious and uncomfortable. In addition to the cosmetic factor, missing teeth can lead to difficulty chewing and speaking and can even change the appearance of your face. To compensate for the missing teeth, your other teeth may experience more wear and tear, which could lead to additional tooth loss and other dental problems.

Missing teeth can be replaced through a number of different dental techniques, although dental implants have significant advantages over these other options. With dental implants from Applebaum Dental in Riverside, you will feel confident and ready to smile again.

Did you know…

that approximately 30 million people live with no natural teeth in one or both jaws? But more and more dental patients are opting for dental implants as a means of tooth replacement. The American Academy of Implant Dentistry reports that 3 million people currently have dental implants – a number that is rapidly growing by about 500,000 per year. Modern titanium implants were first developed in the 1950’s, but archeologists have determined that ancient Egyptians and Mayans were the first cultures to implant artificial teeth.

Frequently asked Questions?

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are surgical-grade titanium root devices that are integrated directly into your bone so they are as natural as your original tooth. After three to six months a crown is mounted over the implant for a long-lasting and natural looking smile. Many dentists and patients prefer dental implants because they become a permanent part of your mouth, are just as durable as your natural teeth and can be cared for just as you would care for your natural teeth.

Are dental implants right for me?

If your mouth and teeth are generally healthy and you have no major health concerns, you may be a candidate for dental implants. Since the implant adheres directly to the bone, it is important that you have good periodontal bone health and enough bone to support the implant. We have an in-office periodontist who can consult with you to determine if implants are right for you. Dr. Appelbaum will be more than happy to discuss your oral health with you and help to determine if a dental implant is the right solution for you.

What should I expect if my dentist and I decide dental implants are right for me?

The placement of dental implants is a multi-step process that typically takes between 6 and 9 months to complete. It begins with a surgical procedure during which a titanium post is placed where a previous natural tooth root once was. The replacement tooth(crown) can not be placed over the implant until the surrounding bone integrates around the titanium post, which takes approximately three to six months. At the conclusion of the healing period, you’ll return to be fitted for the  permanent crown.

What type of post-treatment care will I require?

It is normal to experience some discomfort, including bruising and swelling following a dental implant procedure. However, inflammation and pain may be managed with over-the-counter medications, or medications prescribed by our in-office periodontist. On the day of your procedure you will be given instructions on how to care for the site during the healing period.
