 Dental Cleaning

We believe that the best way to take care of our patients is to start with a solid foundation of good dental health.

When it comes to maintaining good oral hygiene and healthy teeth and gums, routine cleanings by a licensed dental hygienist are one of the most important parts of your dental care. The American Dental Association recommends that you visit your dentist at least every six months, although more frequent cleanings may be necessary to maintain periodontal health.

During your visit we will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums and other areas of your mouth. An oral cancer screening will be performed to check for changes in the oral cavity which can be more successfully treated if detected early. X-rays are necessary to check for cavities and oral abnormalities which cannot be seen visually.

Our hygienists will also educate you about your dental health and discuss possible treatment options with you. We spend a significant amount of time each visit, not only observing your teeth and gums and explaining what we see, but also encouraging and demonstrating the best strategy for caring for your teeth and gums.

Did you know…

that the inflammation and bacteria associated with gum disease can also affect your general health? Research suggests that there is a link between gum disease and other diseases such as stroke, heart disease, pulmonary disease, diabetes, and an increased risk for preterm or low birth weight babies. Caring properly for your gums is vital to your overall health.

Frequently asked Questions

Why is Preventive and Diagnostic Dental Care Important?

Our practice has a strong emphasis on preventive dental care and patient education. Preventing dental issues from developing is much easier than solving a problem once it has occurred. Preventive dental care begins at home. Brushing twice daily and flossing every evening can prevent many common dental problems.

It is very important to have regular professional cleanings with our skilled and gentle dental hygienists to remove calculus(calcified plaque) deposits which are not accessible with a toothbrush. This will further decrease your chances of developing periodontal disease or other oral health concerns.
