Frequently Asked Questions

Is a bridge right for me?

If you have a missing tooth and would like to restore your bite and improve the appearance of your smile, a bridge may be the solution for you. Schedule an office consultation to determine whether you could benefit from a bridge.

What should I expect when I have my bridge placed?

If you are a candidate for a bridge, two appointments will be necessary which will be spaced approximately three weeks apart. The procedure begins with the preparation of the natural teeth on either side of the missing tooth. An impression will then be taken of your bite which will be used to fabricate a mold so our dental lab can craft your custom fitted porcelain bridge. The color will match the natural shade of your other teeth. Dr. Appelbaum will prepare a temporary bridge which will resemble your natural teeth so that you can continue with your daily life without worrying about a missing tooth. At your second visit Dr. Appelbaum will  proceed with placement of your custom bridge. Once cemented, he will adjust the bite, if necessary,

Do I need to follow any post-treatment care guidelines?

Your teeth and gum tissue will need time to heal following the bridge placement process, so it is normal for you to experience some sensitivity – especially to hot, cold and chewing.  You may take 2 Advil or Tylenol every 6 hours as necessary. Please do not chew on the side that has been treated until your permanent restoration is cemented. On your first visit you will receive instructions on how to care for the area where the treatment was performed.
